Modeling ternary fluids in contact with elastic membranes

چکیده
We present a thermodynamically consistent model of ternary fluid interacting with elastic membranes. Following free-energy modelling approach and taking into account the thermodynamics laws, we derive equations governing flow dynamics also provide numerical framework for simulating such fluid-structure interaction problems. It is based on lattice Boltzmann method, employed resolving evolution in an Eulerian description, coupled to immersed boundary allowing membrane motion be solved Lagrangian system. The configuration capsule placed at fluid-fluid interface considered validation purposes. Systematic simulations are performed detailed comparison reference results obtained by Surface Evolver, Galilean invariance proposed proven. versatile, wide range geometries can simulated. To demonstrate this, problem capillary bridge formed between two deformable capsules investigated here.

Quasistatic Elastic Contact with Adhesion
The aim of this paper is the variational study of the contact with adhesion between an elastic material and a rigid foundation in the quasistatic process where the deformations are supposed to be small. The behavior of this material is modelled by a nonlinear elastic law and the contact is modelled with Signorini’s conditions and adhesion. The evolution of bonding field is described by a nonlin...
متن کاملElastic membranes in confinement.
An elastic membrane stretched between two walls takes a shape defined by its length and the volume of fluid it encloses. Many biological structures, such as cells, mitochondria and coiled DNA, have fine internal structure in which a membrane (or elastic member) is geometrically 'confined' by another object. Here, the two-dimensional shape of an elastic membrane in a 'confining' box is studied b...
متن کاملCoupling Elastic Solids with SPH Fluids
We propose a method for handling elastic solids in SPH fluids. Our approach samples triangulated surfaces of solids using boundary particles. To prevent fluid particle tunneling in case of large expansions, additional boundary particles are adaptively generated to prevent gaps and undesired leakage. Furthermore, as an object compresses, particles are adaptively removed to avoid unnecessary comp...

متن کاملSelf-contact and instabilities in the anisotropic growth of elastic membranes.
We investigate the morphology of thin discs and rings growing in the circumferential direction. Recent analytical results suggest that this growth produces symmetric excess cones (e cones). We study the stability of such solutions considering self-contact and bending stress. We show that, contrary to what was assumed in previous analytical solutions, beyond a critical growth factor, no symmetri...
